Whoo hoo!
What an awesome day! Andy swung by the house and we were on the trail at 9am. The goal was to head up and over the entire area of Indian Hills, picking up all the caches there. Studing the aerial image, the plan was to hike up to the top, circle around following the various roads to the south end, then swing up and along the eastern edge back north to the Yukon.
The initial climb up was as always, a steep huff-puff right up to the top. After that, we flew down the trail, occastionally stopping for a breather, but for the most part it was a long steady pull all the way to the south end. We stopped for awhile to decide which was the best approach and departure from that cache.
The views from up there were fantastic and we snapped many pictures, including a large panoramic of Eagle and Carson Valley together. Then it was up the old fenceline road before heading over and grabbing the three middle caches. At the second, we were greeted and amazed by the graceful soaring of a young Golden Eagle. Absolutely breathtaking!
The hike continued down the ridge and into the flatland below were we scored a few other caches including one that I had found evidence of despite being archived 7 years ago! Sweet!!
The last long pull to the truck was killer and just a steady climb. Andy started saying, "Look, Yukon do it!" Nice play on words and a great mtivation to get us up that final stretch to finally collapse into the truck.
5 caches for me, 6 hours 20 minutes, 7.2 miles! Longest hike so far this year! Now to recover and hope the storm doesn't bury everything for too long.
